Silkies for sale
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

By purchasing & sending payment the buyer confirms they have read, understood, and agreed to all terms listed on this page.

Sales Policy:

  • All sales are final, no refunds or exchanges will be given.
  • Once a balance is paid, it is non-refundable. Cancellations from the buyer result in a credit on file, which does not expire.
  • Once we have contacted and scheduled shipping with the buyer and/or buyer has chosen their birds, no changes to their order can be made.
  • If a buyer has not yet had shipping scheduled and/or selected birds from a previously placed order, they can choose to cancel that order and put the monies paid, towards any auctions or listings Fluffy Bottom’s Coop has.
  • Buyer can adjust or change their order at anytime before shipping/pickup has been scheduled but this can result in losing their place in line/estimated delivery/pickup date changing.
  • Fluffy Bottom’s Coop reserves the right to cancel a order for any reason and will refund the buyer in full in the event this happens.
  • Our terms and conditions are subject to change without notice.

    Pre-orders & Shipping Delays:

  • Pre-orders require patience due to being a small breeder and we are at the mercy of when our birds lay, fertility rates, hatch rates, gender results etc. If you cannot be patient for us to fill your order, only order from ready to ship listings.
  • We take pre-orders for birds that are up to the age of 2 months old, this is 8 weeks old. We will not contact you and offer you birds that are older that may come available before your birds are ready to ship/pickup.
  • Order fulfillment depends on the sex ratio of juveniles (pullets vs. cockerels), which may cause delays. Larger orders of 4+ 8-12 week old juveniles or 10+ chicks, may need to be shipped out on separate dates.
  • Satins, frizzles and Showgirls require patience when ordering them. For example, each egg laid by a frizzle hen has a chance of hatching a chick that could be a satin, satin frizzle or silkie frizzle (these are different feather types). Then each chick has 50/50 chance of being male or female. Some hens have the possibility of hatching a chick that could be up to 4 different colors. As you can imagine, this can cause delay filling orders for specific colors/feather types/gender, you agree to be patient when ordering from us.
  • Each year we hope to start shipping our pre-orders end of March and into September if we have the eggs to incubate and weather also allows us to safely ship live birds.
  • Shipping is weather-dependent, and birds will only be shipped if temperatures are safe on our end and yours. We monitor weather by the zip code given to us in your shipping address. We need minimum overnight temps to be 50 degrees for 2 month (8-12 weeks) olds and 65 degrees for chicks. Our zip code is 52324 if you want to keep an eye on temps on our end.
  • If temperatures aren’t suitable, customers will be moved to the next available birds that match their order. We will not hold and continue to grow out birds until temperatures are safe.
  • We are not responsible for state exportation or importation restrictions that delay us from sending you live birds or eggs. You agree to wait until we can ship your order to you.
  • Delivery deadlines are not realistic for us as a small breeder unless you are ordering a ready to ship bird. Even then, we cannot be responsible for USPS delays.
  • Customers will be contacted via email or text message and must confirm they are ready to receive their birds before we will ship your birds to you.
  • Birds should be held at your local post office for pickup. The number you provide with your order must be correct as this is the number your post office will be calling to notify you that your birds are ready for pickup.

     Bird Selection:

  • For listings that say you get to choose your birds, you will be shown photos/videos for selection via e-mail or text message to pick the birds of your choice.
  • Failure to respond promptly to selection requests may cause a loss of spot in line and the birds will be offered to next in line.
  • Customers may opt out of a selection if no bird is a perfect fit, and will be moved to the next available group to choose from.
  • We choose the birds that are ordered from our mystery boxes, discounted birds and chick orders.
  • Discounted birds can be up to a year in age and have a strong possibility of coming with cosmetic faults with their wings, combs, poor crests, odd toes etc or they could simply be birds we have extras of with no faults that we need to move to make space. We choose these birds and they can come in any color, feather type and could be Showgirls.
  • When ordering chicks, if we are short on available chicks you ordered, we may exchange with another chick color/feather type that you ordered.
  • Sexed pullet chicks are sex-linked and only available in limited colors. We try to send everyone an assortment but we are limited to what hatches, so you may end up with all the same colors.
  • Your choice chicks are all unsexed unless your purchasing 4 hen/pullet assorted chicks (limited availability).
  • For the safety of our chicks, 4 count chick boxes will not be shipped until temperatures are warmer (end of May/June) since there are less chicks to keep each other warm.
  • Chicks from assorted boxes come unsexed. They come in an assortment of colors from any of our breeding pen and can have various feather types like silkie, satin, silkie frizzle and satin frizzle. With the majority of our chicks having standard silkie feathers, you may only receive silkie feathered chicks from our assorted chick boxes.
  • To receive specific colors and feather types, customers should order sexed juveniles or select from available your choice chick listings where you can choose specific feather/color types.

    Bird Quality & Characteristics:

  • Our Silkies are considered pets and are intended for pet homes, we do not show our birds as of January 2026.
  • Silkies are considered dual purpose and can be used for eggs and/or meat.
  • We breed towards SOP (Standard of Perfection) but most of the colors we offer do not conform to SOP standards. Most of our Silkies can be shown in “Silkie” and/or “Bantam feathered legged” classes.
  • The solid colors we offer for sale may come from mottled lines (aka splits) and can have white feathers.
  • Colors and patterns can change as birds grow; this is beyond control.
  • Cosmetic flaws may develop as the bird ages, this is beyond our control.
  • Solid black skin is rare for most of the colors we offer, and solid white skin or 4 toes may be possible on a chick or older bird that you receive.
  • Straight-comb birds are discounted birds here, we choose discounted birds that we send you and they are considered mystery birds that can can come in any color or feather type.

    Health:

  • No health guarantees; stress from shipping and moving to a new home can cause illness, this is out of our control.
  • New birds should be quarantined and given vitamins upon arrival to help with stress.
  • Customers are responsible for health testing prior to pickup or shipping. We do not have an Avian vet local to us.
  • We are tested yearly for Pullorum Typhoid to maintain our NPIP status to legally ship out eggs and live birds. We practice strict bio security.
  • Seller is not liable for illness, disease transmission, or loss once the chicken(s) leave our possession.
  • Fluffy Bottom’s Coop illness history in our flock (not all birds have been effected/treated due to flock separation):  coccidiosis (treated with Corid), Wry neck (treated with selenium & vitamin E gel, brewers yeast), in 2024 we had 3 birds with fowl pox lesions and no other symptoms (birds were separated, no treatment was given aside from vitamins and all 3 made a full recovery before being introduced back into our flock). We do get occasional seasonal sniffles/sneezing  and treat our birds with electrolytes/vitamins & herbs.
  • Buyer releases Fluffy Bottom’s Coop from liability for any damages, losses, emotional distress, or financial costs associated with the purchase, shipping, hatching and raising or the chickens or hatching eggs we send them.

Shipping & Pickup Information:

  • Fluffy Bottom’s Coop encourages buyers to pickup their birds. Buyers assume all risks involved when choosing to have their birds shipped.
  • Buyer is responsible for paying shipping fees unless the listing states otherwise. Our website occasionally may glitch and not charge you for a second, third etc box needed to ship your birds. In the event this happens, the buyer understands that they will still be responsible for these fees when its time to ship their birds.  10 max chicks per box, 4 max juveniles per box, adult breeding age birds are 1 per box unless their size allows a safe amount of space to add more to your box. Bird safety is our top priority, we will not over crowd a box to save buyer’s extra in shipping fees.
  • Buyer’s are responsible for paying shipping fees for their live bird orders. Orders of 4 or more 8-12 week old juveniles or 10 or more chicks may require needing to be shipped on different dates.
  • Birds are shipped via USPS Express Mail, can be picked up by the buyer or a transporter can be arranged by the buyer.
  • Pickup can take place at the end of our driveway (We practice strict biosecurity, you must stay in your vehicle with your own pet carrier ready) or at our local gas station in Palo, Iowa.
  • Juvenile and older birds that are shipped, are packed with feed and a water bottle for their journey.
  • Chicks that are shipped are packed with feed, a water bottle and a 110 hour rated heat pack (if temperatures require) for their journey. Fluffy Bottom’s Coop is not responsible for heat packs that do not stay warm for the amount of time they say they do, this is out of our control.
  • USPS delays have previously caused losses of younger day old chicks, so chicks are now shipped at 2-3 weeks of age until USPS goes back to guarantee their 1-2 day delivery with Express labels. A single 3-week-old chick was DOA in transit in 2025 since making this switch to shipping older chicks. We have never had a juvenile or older bird DOA when shipping.
  • Buyers are required to be patient with shipping dates and delays.
  • Shipping may be delayed due to weather, temperature, hatch delays, or breeding challenges.
  • We do everything to ensure safe shipping but Fluffy Bottoms Coop is not liable for USPS mishandling, delays or DOAs. There are no refunds for shipping fees or DOAs, our birds are irreplaceable.
  • USPS has not honored insurance for live birds in the past for us, therefore, shipments are not insured.

Terms & Conditions
Hatching Eggs

  • No refunds, exchanges, or replacements are offered for hatching eggs under any circumstances
  • Cancellations will result in a credit on file, once money is paid, it is non-refundable.
  • Customers understand that they are purchasing extra eggs that we ourselves cannot fit in our own incubators and they must be patient when receiving their hatching eggs. Multiple dozen orders may need to ship out on different dates and not at the same time.
  • Customers are contacted prior to shipping their hatching eggs to confirm they will be ready to receive them before we will ship them. Prompt response is necessary to receive the eggs we are contacting you about or we will move to next order in line so the eggs can be shipped to meet our fresh egg policy.
  • We only ship fresh eggs that are collected same day as shipping up to 3 days old. Extra eggs are sent with our 2026 orders if we have them available. Extra eggs could be up to 5 days old but we try to always send fresh extras when available.
  • Hatching eggs are a gamble. We are not responsible for:

    • Hatch rates

    • Fertility outcomes

    • Your incubator issues
    • Shipping delays

    • Damage during shipping

    • Lost or late packages

  • Fertility in our breeding pens is checked bi-weekly, but fertility is never guaranteed because there is no way to determine if the eggs we send you have been fertilized.

  • Pre-orders have no timeline on when we will send them, we ship eggs when we have extras. you agree to be patient.

  • When pre-ordering eggs from different breeding pens, you understand we cannot ship your eggs until we have fresh eggs from each of your chosen pens and fertility has been tested within the last two weeks before shipping. You agree to be patient when placing pre-orders.
  • You may hatch chicks from every egg, some eggs, or none at all.

  • Your choice dozen eggs will be labeled from what color pen they came from.  Mystery/hens choice dozens may or may not come labeled. Please view our Chick ID page to identify what colors you hatched.
  • Eggs are shipped via USPS Priority Mail, which typically takes 4–5 days to arrive if there are no delays. We might be switching to UPS 2 day delivery. Boxes are clearly labeled to be held at your local post office with your phone number for them to call you for pickup. You are responsible for providing the correct phone number when placing your order. We are unsure how UPS handles pickup at post office requests, we have no control over this and your box may be delivered instead of held for pickup.

  • Our breeding pens are considered project pens. Do not purchase our hatching eggs if you are expecting:

    • Guaranteed solid black skin

    • No colors gene carriers (mottled, mille, chocolate etc)
    • A 100% chance of five toes

    • Perfect combs

    • Perfect crests

    • Strict SOP (Standard of Perfection) colors only

  • Project pens may produce unexpected or surprise colors and patterns. If you only want certain colors, we strongly encourage your to order chicks or juveniles instead.

  • Colors and patterns will vary between offspring.

  • Some breeding pens include splits, meaning offspring may have a 50% chance of being solid colors.

  • We intentionally keep splits in certain pens to increase black skin quality, which is a primary focus going into the 2026 season.

  • All feather types are possible, including Showgirls.

  • Below is a look at how we package our hatching eggs. This is subject to change if we find a safer way to ship our hatching eggs.
